Winemaker Notes

Deep red color with intense and lively purple tones. Aromas of black fruits, ripe plums, and spicy notes blend with dark chocolate, vanilla and smoke (from the oak) On the palate, it is initially sweet, with gentle but persistent tannins. Full-bodied, with great structure, balanced acidity, and a persistent finish.

WE 91
Wine Enthusiast

A full-force, aromatic shot of oak and potent black fruit carries the nose of this wine. The full palate features a rich blackberry flavor prior to the narrow, toasty finish. It carries all the power of the 2017 vintage. Drink through 2029.

JS 91
James Suckling

Aromas of cassis and spicy blackberries arrive in quite fresh and pure mode on the nose, leading to a palate that has a smooth and sleek stream of fine, fresh purple fruit-soaked tannins. Drink or hold.

Bodegas Valentin Bianchi is a fourth generation, family-owned Argentine winery founded in 1928 (and is among the oldest Argentine wineries still owned by the same family). It is renowned for traditional Argentine wines. After almost a century of hard work and success, Valentin Bianchi still shines with the legacy of the family, seeking to keep alive its passion for wine, crossing borders via export to most of the world, and constantly exploring new horizons, on both the winemaking and marketing sides of the company. Valentin Bianchi wines encompass the exponents of the best terroirs of Argentina, with a philosophy that encourages a constant exploration for the ideal terroir for each wine. Its philosophy is to find the unique and unparalleled aspects of each one of the winery’s estates to interpret the vine’s intent and provide the market with variety and excellence in each and every wine they produce.

Mendoza Wine

Argentina

View all products

By far the largest and best-known winemaking province in Argentina, Mendoza is responsible for over 70% of the country’s enological output. Set in the eastern foothills of the Andes Mountains, the climate is dry and continental, presenting relatively few challenges for viticulturists during the growing season. Mendoza, divided into several distinctive sub-regions, including Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley, is the source of some of the country’s finest wines.

For many wine lovers, Mendoza is practically synonymous with Malbec. Originally a Bordelaise variety brought to Argentina by the French in the mid-1800s, here it found success and renown that it never knew in its homeland where a finicky climate gives mixed results. Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot and Pinot Noir are all widely planted here as well (and sometimes even blended with each other or Malbec). Mendoza's main white varieties include Chardonnay, Torrontés, Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon.

Celebrated for its bold flavors and supple texture, Malbec has enjoyed runaway success in Argentina since the late 20th century. The grape originated in Bordeaux, France, where it historically contributed color and tannin to blends. A French agronomist, who saw great potential for the variety in Mendoza’s hot, high-altitude landscape, brought Malbec to Argentina in 1868. Somm Secret—If you’re trying to please a crowd, Malbec is generally a safe bet with its combination of dense fruit and soft tannins.
