Winemaker Notes

Marinus exhibits a deep crimson color in the glass. The aromas are wonderfully vibrant with scents of cassis and ripe black cherry accented by notes of cedar, cloves and cinnamon. The palate is very full and intense, exploding with flavors of dark red fruits that linger on the long, highly-structured finish. While this wine is enjoyable now for its youthful power, it is an excellent candidate for many years of ageing in a suitable cellar.

Black and white pepper, boysenberries and roasting pork notes show on the fresh and vibrant nose of this blend of the five red Bordeaux varietals. Light and lively on the palate, it offers lots of boysenberry energy, with more pepper, thyme, cardamom and tea elements. It's a refreshing change of pace from a cool vintage.

One of the world’s most classic and popular styles of red wine, Bordeaux-inspired blends have spread from their homeland in France to nearly every corner of the New World. Typically based on either Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot and supported by Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, the best of these are densely hued, fragrant, full of fruit and boast a structure that begs for cellar time. Somm Secret—Blends from Bordeaux are generally earthier compared to those from the New World, which tend to be fruit-dominant.

Extending east from the quaint seaside town of Carmel-by-the-Sea, Carmel Valley’s western vineyards produce cool climate varieties such as Chardonnay and Pinot noir while its warmer, eastern end, does well with heat-loving varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Sirah.
