    Winemaker Notes

This Estate Pinot Noir is the flagship wine in the Balo portfolio. Produced from four clones of entirely estate grown grapes (in arguably the best vintage Anderson Valley has ever seen) this wine is powerful, and structured while retaining the acids and the nuanced flavor profile that our Pinots have become known for. Approachable now, this wine should continue to improve in the bottle for 7-10 years.

    Balo Winery Image
Balo wines are made entirely from estate grown grapes, the oldest of which were planted in 1998. Their partnership with Molly and Jason Drew includes a shared philosophy that extends into every aspect of Balo's wine growing and wine making activities. Their commitment to quality includes organic farming practices, harvesting only when true physiological ripeness is reached and a strong belief that minimal handling and intervention during and after harvest make the best wines.

Reaching up California's coastline and into its valleys north of San Francisco, the North Coast AVA includes six counties: Marin, Solano, Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake. While Napa and Sonoma enjoy most of the glory, the rest produce no shortage of quality wines in an intriguing and diverse range of styles.

Climbing up the state's rugged coastline, the chilly Marin County, just above the City and most of Sonoma County, as well as Mendocino County on the far north end of the North Coast successfully grow cool-climate varieties like Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and in some spots, Riesling. Inland Lake County, on the other hand, is considerably warmer, and Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel and Sauvignon Blanc produce some impressive wines with affordable price tags.
