Balgownie Bendigo Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 Front Label
Balgownie Bendigo Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 Front Label

Winemaker Notes

The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon shows classic aromas of red and black currants combined with leafy notes and cedar oak. The palate combines both complexity and intensity of flavor, in the traditional Balgownie cellar worthy style, with great palate length stewarded to its conclusion by layer upon layer of beautiful ripe tannins. A wine with great focus and purity which will accompany protein rich dishes now and for the next 10-15 years when cellared carefully.

One of the world’s most classic and popular styles of red wine, Bordeaux-inspired blends have spread from their homeland in France to nearly every corner of the New World. Typically based on either Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot and supported by Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, the best of these are densely hued, fragrant, full of fruit and boast a structure that begs for cellar time. Somm Secret—Blends from Bordeaux are generally earthier compared to those from the New World, which tend to be fruit-dominant.

One of Australia’s prized gold mining locations at the end of the 19th century, today Bendigo’s temperate and dry climate produces approachable and full bodied reds. Lack of water in the area limits grower expansion, keeping the region small and specialized.
