Winemaker Notes

The 2015 UV is a Pinot Noir of enormous scale and energy. This is deeply aromatic with endless dark fruits, and hints of Earl Grey tea, nutmeg and pipe tobacco. In the mouth this wine reveals unmatched richness and intensity. Flavors focus on warm blueberry, baking spice and an ethereal iron-laden soil note. This is a sumptuous Pinot and the harmony of its parts promises long evolution. Suggested drinking window is 2017 through 2030.

Critical Acclaim

All Vintages
JS 97
James Suckling
Blackberry and cherry, spice with hints of flowers on the nose. Full body, chewy yet polished and beautiful. This is a fantastic red with complexity and power. Drink in 2020.
RP 96
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2015 Pinot Noir UV is stunning, concentrated because of the tiny yields. The wine has a dense ruby color and a gorgeous nose of raspberries, forest floor, underbrush and blacker fruits. It is full-bodied, has good acidity, an ethereal fragrance and a long, long finish. It should drink well for 15 or more years.
WS 95
Wine Spectator
Touches all the bases, presenting a mix of richness, flavor, complexity and length, with an overriding sense of completeness that begs for another taste. Drink now through 2026.

Aubert The Passion of Elegant Farming Winery Image

Mark Aubert’s Sonoma Coast vineyard-designate Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs have risen in popularity at a dizzying speed. Aubert’s career in winemaking began in 1989 at Peter Michael under the tutelage of Helen Turley, which led to his time at Colgin, Sloan, Futo and then Bryant Family, before founding Aubert Wines with his wife Teresa in 1999. His wines express the essence of singular terroirs with an effortless grace. Mark crafts the wines of Aubert to speak to a variety of wine lovers with one thing in common – selective palates that expect nothing but the best.

The Sonoma Coast AVA is large in area but, not counting overlapping regions like Russian River Valley, only has a few thousand acres of grapevines—and it’s no wonder. Much of the region is rugged and not easily accessible. Its proximity to the Pacific Ocean’s fog and cool breezes limits the varieties that can be cultivated, but it proves to be an ideal environment for high quality Pinot Noir.

Since fog is a frequent fact of life here, as are heavy marine layers that sometimes bring rain, the best vineyards are wisely planted above the fog line, on picturesque ridges that capture enough sun to provide even ripening. That, with the overnight drop in temperature that reliably preserves acidity, results in fine expressions of Pinot Noir that often receive tremendous critic and consumer praise alike, and are often in high demand.
