Winemaker Notes
The word “Medhyk” is Cornish for doctor and named in honor of our founder, Dr. William Thomas Angove, and is the flagship wine of the Angove Family Winemakers. The Medhyk is 100% Shiraz sourced from 60+ year old vines in McLaren Vale, South Australia.
Intense inky purple with bright magenta hues. Classic McLaren Vale aromas of blackberries bitter chocolate and liquorice are perfectly held by carefully utilised French oak. The palate follows on from the initial aromas and is rich and full, with the abundant fruit flavours given structure by soft tannins.
Have it with beef roast or strong aged cheese.

The latest vintage of Angove's top Shiraz is a powerful wine. A perfumed nose of plump plum and cherry mingles with cracked pepper, baking spices and warm pavement, all framed by a vanillin oak character. The tannins are peppery, woody and grainy in texture, and the alcohol feels a touch warm. Overall, this is a focused and tightly structured wine that should cellar well. Drink 2021–2029.

Marked by an unmistakable deep purple hue and savory aromatics, Syrah makes an intense, powerful and often age-worthy red. Native to the Northern Rhône, Syrah achieves its maximum potential in the steep village of Hermitage and plays an important component in the Red Rhône Blends of the south, adding color and structure to Grenache and Mourvèdre. Syrah is the most widely planted grape of Australia and is important in California and Washington. Sommelier Secret—Such a synergy these three create together, the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre trio often takes on the shorthand term, “GSM.”
Known for opulent red wines with intense power and concentration, McLaren Vale is home to perhaps the most “classic” style of Australian Shiraz. Vinified on its own or in Rhône Blends, these hot-climate wines are deeply colored and high in extract with signature hints of dark chocolate and licorice. Cabernet Sauvignon is also produced in a similar style.
Whites, often made from Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc tend to be opulent and full of tropical, stone and citrus fruit.
