Alamos Mendoza Seleccion Malbec 2008 Front Label
Alamos Mendoza Seleccion Malbec 2008 Front Label

Winemaker Notes

The 2008 Alamos Seleccion Malbec shows an opaque, dark violet color. The nose is full of ripe blueberry fruits with notes of violets and sweet spice. The moutheel is full and rich with ripe black cherry and cassis fruit layered with notes of wildflowers, spicy black pepper and anise. The finish shows a supple silky texture with a bright, racy acidity and a stony minerality.

Professional Ratings

Saturated, inky Malbec with plenty of sweet mocha, chocolate and vanilla to go with black fruit aromas. The palate is big and bold but controlled, with compact, intense flavors of berry, leather and black tea. Smooth on the finish, with soft, integrated tannins and just enough acidity to maintain freshness. Drink this year.

If you enjoy wines with the sweet ripeness of black fruit, the type of wines that offer the kind of full-bodied intensity and depth of flavor that is right at home in a steakhouse, this malbec is one of the better representatives of the style.

Most distinguished and celebrated from Argentina’s Mendoza, Malbec has seen runaway success since the early 2000s. Mendoza’s agreeable, continental climate with hot, dry summers and cold snowy winters allows the perfect conditions for growing outstanding Malbec. This grape is easy to like for its lusty, deep flavors and aromas of blackberry, plum, red cherry, autumn spice and tilled earth. It’s easy to find delicious, fruit-driven, affordable everyday examples and in prices beyond, quite exceptional ones with dense, supple textures that make them capable of aging.
