Winemaker Notes

Malbec is the signature wine of the Mendoza region and represents the highest achievements of Argentine winemaking. The Alamos Malbec has dark, blackish purple color. The nose shows ripe black fruits, black pepper spice and floral notes. The mouthfeel is full yet soft and supple, with black raspberry and currant flavors mingled with notes of sweet spice and a touch of leather. The finish is long and persistent with soft, sweet tannins.

Rubbery at first, then it rounds out and settles down to offer blackberry and richness and jammy aromas. The palate is soft, lush and cushioned, while blackberry flavors run sweet, toasty, and chocolaty. Remains sweet on the finish, with fig and minty spice flavors.

Most distinguished and celebrated from Argentina’s Mendoza, Malbec has seen runaway success since the early 2000s. Mendoza’s agreeable, continental climate with hot, dry summers and cold snowy winters allows the perfect conditions for growing outstanding Malbec. This grape is easy to like for its lusty, deep flavors and aromas of blackberry, plum, red cherry, autumn spice and tilled earth. It’s easy to find delicious, fruit-driven, affordable everyday examples and in prices beyond, quite exceptional ones with dense, supple textures that make them capable of aging.
