The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Farella Vineyard is another succulent, forward wine from Agharta. Sweet, floral aromatics meld into a core of ripe, forward fruit. Lavender, mint and violet are some of the notes that develop as the wine fleshes out with air. Pax Mahle has chosen to emphasize fruit over some of the more savory and mineral attributes that are some of the signatures of this well-known Coombsville vineyard. This is an especially soft 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon.

Somm Secret—DNA profiling in 1997 revealed that Cabernet Sauvignon was born from a spontaneous crossing of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc in 17th century southwest France.

Known for elegant wines that combine power and finesse, Carneros is set in the rolling hills that straddle the southernmost parts of both Sonoma and Napa counties. The cooling winds from the abutting San Pablo Bay, combined with lots of midday California sunshine, create an ideal environment for producing wines with a perfect balance of crisp acidity and well-ripened fruit.

This cooler pocket of California lends itself to growing Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah. Carneros is an important source of sparkling wines made in the style of Champagne as well.
