Winemaker Notes
Fresh cigar, dark red fruits, and clove all waft out of the glass. Cherry pie elements mix with sauteed sage and olive tapenade on the palate creating a combination that is both fruit forward and savory. Velvety tannins make for a smooth texture and long finish that echoes clove, cigar, and dark fruit.
This Cabernet Franc grows in the rocky soils near the scraggly oak trees at the Bavarian Lion Vineyard in Knights Valley. A very warm climate near Calistoga, the stressful growing conditions lead to smaller, more intensely flavored and colored fruit. Making this wine is all about respecting the time it takes to get it perfectly ripe, which is a long time with Franc from this vineyard! Equally important are the barrel selections which are chosen to enhance the natural velvety tannins and interesting spice components.

A solid, muscular Cab Franc, dark in profile, with good winey cassis and plum sauce notes at the core, laced with a hefty dose of smoldering tobacco. Shows nice loamy grip through the finish, with the underlying energy to support it all.

Here Cabernet Franc shines as a single varietal wine or in blends, expressing sumptuous fruit, savory aromas and polished tannins.
A small and picturesque valley separating Napa Valley on its south border and Alexander Valley to its north, Knights Valley excels in similar varieties as the two aforementioned appellations, namely red Bordeaux varieties and blends, as well as Sauvignon blanc. Originally established by Beringer Vineyards, today several outstanding producers claim acreage here. The circadian cooling effects of the nearby Pacific Ocean create a nighttime respite for vineyards during the hot growing season.
