Red White Sparkling Rosé Spirits GiftsLearn about Sauvignon Gris — taste profile, popular regions and more …
Sauvignon Gris is a pink-skinned variant of Sauvignon Blanc. It mainly grows in parts of Bordeaux and Loire Valley, where it is blended to Sauvignon Blanc to add body and fullness to the finished wine. While nearly half of the global acreage is in France, about a third of plantings are found in Chile.
Tasting Notes for Sauvignon Gris
Sauvignon Gris is a dry white wine with a light body and medium acidity. It shows floral and herbaceous aromas and flavors of mandarin, pear, apricot, mango and melon.
Perfect Food Pairings for Sauvignon Gris
Caramelized onions, scallops in a white wine sauce, oysters, grilled chicken and goat cheese are all great options for pairing with Sauvignon Gris.
Sommelier Secrets for Sauvignon Gris
Sauvignon Gris is not officially accepted in Sancerre wines, which must be 100% Sauvignon Blanc by definition. But it’s well-agreed that Sauvignon Gris vines are likely unknowingly scattered among the Sauvignon Blanc vines. And for another fun fact: the Touraine wine region calls this grape Fié, or Fié Gris.
