Winemaker Notes

A mineral and fresh Malbec. Floral notes and red fruit aromas on the nose are followed by a rich and medium bodied palate that enhances the fruit profile of this wine. Round tannins that add up to a long finish.

Blend: 90% Malbec, 7% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot

A spicy and fresh malbec with some dark walnuts, crushed stones and a hint of sweet spices to the blue fruit and exotically fresh herbs. Juicy and bright on the palate with mealy, dusty tannins and an elegant but lengthy finish.

Compact at first but slowly reveals itself, with a minerally density to the richly textured blackberry and spiced plum core, but with a suaveness to the finish that stretches out, revealing cocoa bean and cordial notes.

The 2021 Zaha Malbec was co-fermented with 7% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot and 40% whole clusters. It displays a lovely bouquet of black fruits, purple flowers, crushed stones and cocoa powder. On the palate, it is silky and energetic yet remarkably concentrated. It concludes with a weightlessly rich and beautifully balanced finish. This is another beautiful, overperforming value from the team at Mil Suelos.

The 2021 Malbec Zaha also contains 12% and 3% dashes of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, respectively, all from Paraje Altamira in the Uco Valley. Dark purple in the glass. The complex nose offers aromas of blackberry, plum, bay leaf, violets, sage and other mountain herbs. The palate is dry and chalky, with taut, finely-grained tannins stirred up by the juicy, refreshing acidity. The 2021 is a long-lasting Altamira wine packed full of primary flavor.

Most distinguished and celebrated from Argentina’s Mendoza, Malbec has seen runaway success since the early 2000s. Mendoza’s agreeable, continental climate with hot, dry summers and cold snowy winters allows the perfect conditions for growing outstanding Malbec. This grape is easy to like for its lusty, deep flavors and aromas of blackberry, plum, red cherry, autumn spice and tilled earth. It’s easy to find delicious, fruit-driven, affordable everyday examples and in prices beyond, quite exceptional ones with dense, supple textures that make them capable of aging.
