Ripe blueberries, sweet blackberries and roasted spices. Some blue-fruit and wet-stone bouquet, too. Medium-to full-bodied palate with a rich but juicy profile of fruit, framed by dense but polished tannins. Sappy and fleshy.

A rich, decadent style, with a layer of roasted coffee bean over a deeply flavored core of blackberry cobbler, which is kept honest by a slight thread of fresh mineral acidity that drives the flavors onto the finish. Ends as it began, with roasted coffee notes and hints of chocolate and kirsch. Drink now through 2030.

The 2020 Zaha Malbec was co-fermented with a little Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, from the vineyard they call Toko in Paraje Altamira, with 25% full clusters and indigenous yeasts and matured for 15 months in 500-liter oak barrels, 15% of them new. It has only 13.5% alcohol and good freshness and balance, which is impressive for a warm year like 2020. It's harmonious and serious, without heat and with notes of black rather than red fruit, hints of graphite and smoke. It's medium to full-bodied with fine, abundant tannins. Fruit-driven and pleasant.

Structured and textured, it opens with subtle aromas of red fruit and peppercorn. Herbs invade the palate and meet with graphite and black cherries. It's an enjoyable blend of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Most distinguished and celebrated from Argentina’s Mendoza, Malbec has seen runaway success since the early 2000s. Mendoza’s agreeable, continental climate with hot, dry summers and cold snowy winters allows the perfect conditions for growing outstanding Malbec. This grape is easy to like for its lusty, deep flavors and aromas of blackberry, plum, red cherry, autumn spice and tilled earth. It’s easy to find delicious, fruit-driven, affordable everyday examples and in prices beyond, quite exceptional ones with dense, supple textures that make them capable of aging.
