COMMENTARY: Winemakers & Co-Owners Alejandro Sejanovich and Jeff Mausbach are highly respected wine producers, and the ZaHa Malbec is high-level wine. TASTING NOTES: The 2013 ZaHa Malbec offers tremendous complexity without sacrificing elegance. The wine's red and black fruit and nicely woven into a palate that is both intricate and decidedly pure. Enjoy this wine with pan-seared hanger steak and diced mild chilis. (Tasted: April 11, 2018, San Francisco, CA)

The 2013 Zaha Malbec is co-fermented with a little Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, all of them from an Altamira vineyard called Toko, which in Huarpe means stone. It has notes of blackberries, violets, damsons, scorched earth and some licorice. It's powerful and fleshy, with very fine tannins, great balance and freshness. A structured and layered Malbec that is still a baby and that should develop more complexity with time in bottle.

Most distinguished and celebrated from Argentina’s Mendoza, Malbec has seen runaway success since the early 2000s. Mendoza’s agreeable, continental climate with hot, dry summers and cold snowy winters allows the perfect conditions for growing outstanding Malbec. This grape is easy to like for its lusty, deep flavors and aromas of blackberry, plum, red cherry, autumn spice and tilled earth. It’s easy to find delicious, fruit-driven, affordable everyday examples and in prices beyond, quite exceptional ones with dense, supple textures that make them capable of aging.
