Widow Jane Rye Mash American Oak Aged Whiskey
2021 San Francisco World Spirits Competition Gold Medal Winner
When rye comes off the still it is sweet, grassy, and floral. A traditional “spicy” characteristic comes from the barrel. With this whiskey, Widow Jane's goal was to lightly oak and round out the the rye distillate in once-used 10-year bourbon barrels with added fresh cut oak staves.
This is a light, tropical “summer” rye and makes for some great cocktails. A good bitter, or a splash of vermouth or ginger beer goes a long way.
Widow Jane's job is simple: To create whiskies that bring you an intensity of flavor, a variety, and a style that reflect the team's beloved home of New York.
The team distills every week in Red Hook using the finest non-GMO ingredients, including corn varietals such as Baby Jane that are very unique.
The team at Widow Jane also scours the country for the finest barrels of Bourbon and bring these to you with no chill filtration, at high proof and cut with unique Limestone water from the Rosendale mines of upstate New York.
This pure limestone filtered water has an unusually high mineral content that enhances the natural flavors in Widow Jane's spirits. These very same mines supplied the cement that built New York and America itself, and can be found in the Empire State Building, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the White House to name but three.
Come and see the team in Brooklyn, where you may find them distilling, proofing, experimenting with new mash bills, or endlessly discussing improving their whiskies.
