Winemaker Notes

Zaco's vinification is based on achieving maximum fruit and freshness through cold pre-maceration, fermentation at lower than normal temperatures (24ºC) and two weeks' maceration. The wine is then left to mature in American and French oak until it is reaching its full potential.

Intense, bright cherry with violet hues. Initial dominant notes of black fruits, violets and liquorice followed by the underlying spicy notes of barrel ageing - vanilla and clove. Full-bodied with a long, fresh finish

This polished red delivers black cherry, espresso and mineral flavors in a silky texture over firm tannins. Leafy and floral notes linger. Not powerful, but has intensity. Drink now through 2014. 20,000 cases made.

Hailed as the star red variety in Spain’s most celebrated wine region, Tempranillo from Rioja, or simply labeled, “Rioja,” produces elegant wines with complex notes of red and black fruit, crushed rock, leather, toast and tobacco, whose best examples are fully capable of decades of improvement in the cellar.

Rioja wines are typically a blend of fruit from its three sub-regions: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Oriental, although specific sub-region (zonas), village (municipios) and vineyard (viñedo singular) wines can now be labeled. Rioja Alta and Alavesa, at the highest elevations, are considered to be the source of the brightest, most elegant fruit, while grapes from the warmer and drier, Rioja Oriental, produce wines with deep color, great body and richness.
