Winemaker Notes

The Zingaretti Estate Chardonnay is a testament to the art of winemaking, having undergone fermentation in French oak foudres and a complete spontaneous malolactic fermentation. It is aged for 10 months in the same oak, resulting in a wine that boasts a pale straw hue with hints of green. The bouquet is a refreshing blend of orange blossom and green tea, while the palate reveals a delicate structure, marked by a focused flavor profile and balanced acidity. The wine's finesse is attributed to the rocky, well-drained soils and a temperate summer season punctuated by rain, which ensured the vines' optimal health and gradual maturation. This Chardonnay is a harmonious expression of nature and nurture, crafted with precision and care.

The 2023 Chardonnay Zingaretti Estate hails from Villa Bastías in the Uco Valley, with 25% aged for ten months. The aromas feature lime, honey, wild herbs, hazelnuts, white fruits, ginger and a touch of wood. It presents a fine and creamy character with elevated freshness. Compared to previous vintages, it appears less complete but still complex due to the warm year. This is a well-crafted white wine.

Sourced from 40-year-old vines in Villa Bastías, the 2023 Zingaretti Estate Chardonnay fermented in French oak foudre and matured for 10 months in 25% new wood. It opens with the most transparent and multifaceted bouquet of the Viña Cobos Chardonnays, melding honeyed orchard fruits, chalk dust, citrus peels and hazelnut aromas with increasing intensity. The palate follows with an understated profile that combines tensile energy with rich, textural breadth, concluding with a creamy, resonant finish propelled by vibrant acidity.

Balances richness and vibrancy, with a hint of marzipan to the apricot galette center, plus floral tangelo and finger lime notes swirling in. Verbena and chalky elements round out the finish, with freshness and a twinge of pastry. Drink now through 2030.

One of the most popular and versatile white wine grapes, Chardonnay offers a wide range of flavors and styles depending on where it is grown and how it is made. While it tends to flourish in most environments, Chardonnay from its Burgundian homeland produces some of the most remarkable and longest lived examples. California produces both oaky, buttery styles and leaner, European-inspired wines. Somm Secret—The Burgundian subregion of Chablis, while typically using older oak barrels, produces a bright style similar to the unoaked style. Anyone who doesn't like oaky Chardonnay would likely enjoy Chablis.

With a winning combination of cool weather, high elevation and well-draining alluvial soils, it is no surprise that Mendoza’s Uco Valley is one of the most exciting up-and-coming wine regions in Argentina. Healthy, easy-to-manage vines produce low yields of high-quality fruit, which in turn create flavorful, full-bodied wines with generous acidity.

This is the source of some of the best Malbec in Mendoza, which can range from value-priced to ultra-premium. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay also perform well here.
