Winemaker Notes
The Tom Cullity descends from these original vines and represents the pinnacle of Vasse Felix. The palate is vibrant with mouth-watering cranberry freshness and while light, is juicy, precise, and balanced with remarkable fine-grained tannins. Long cassis and cherry pip flavored tannins create a dry and fine finish. A significant Cabernet of uniquely delicate proportions.

The 2015 vintage Cabernets in Margaret River were strange wines to review upon release. They felt inherently backward and restrained and have only in the past year or so begun to climb out of themselves and show their potential. Here, the 2015 Tom Cullity Cabernet Sauvignon Malbec is elegant and subtle, a cool reflection of the mild vintage conditions and long growing season. It's a beautiful wine, a dark horse in the lineup.

The 2015 Cullity is all about finesse and power with subtle aromas and flavors of currants, plums and autumnal leaves. Full body and firm, chewy tannins that give the wine length and freshness. Just keeps on growing on the palate. Better after 2022, but already a gem to taste. Drink in 2022 and onwards. Screw cap.

The third vintage of Tom Cullity is the best to date. This premium bottling offers threads of graphite, currants, black olives, nori, tomato leaf and roasted green peppers. These flavors, along with spicy French oak, are tightly woven with fine chalky tannins. Power and elegance share the limelight, and linearity trumps roundness and richness. Cellar through 2039.

COMMENTARY: The 2015 Vasse Felix Tom Cullity Cabernet Sauvignon is about elegance. TASTING NOTES: This wine is stylish, bright, and well balanced. Pair its red currant and savory spice aromas and flavors with a mildly-seasoned oven-baked pork roast. (Tasted: September 24, 2019, San Francisco, CA)

Decanter
The higher proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon comes through with an extra depth of blackcurrant and leaf character on the palate. Clean, fresh and lively, there is great lift here. Elegant, with lots of purity, this is not a blockbuster style, but rather a refined, mid-term blend with wide appeal.

Shows power and intensity to the fresh, juicy black cherry and plum flavors, with notes of black licorice, loam, toasted herb, black tea and orange zest on a frame of dense, muscular tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. Drink now through 2033.
A noble variety bestowed with both power and concentration, Cabernet Sauvignon enjoys success all over the globe, its best examples showing potential to age beautifully for decades. Cabernet Sauvignon flourishes in Bordeaux's Medoc where it is often blended with Merlot and smaller amounts of some combination of Cabernet Franc, Malbecand Petit Verdot. In the Napa Valley, ‘Cab’ is responsible for some of the world’s most prestigious, age-worthy and sought-after “cult” wines. Somm Secret—DNA profiling in 1997 revealed that Cabernet Sauvignon was born from a spontaneous crossing of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc in 17th century southwest France.
Home to some of Australia’s most elegant and long-lived red and white wines, Margaret River is situated in the farthest reaches of Western Australia. Relatively warm and dry, the region is cooled by breezes from the Indian Ocean. Margaret River takes some inspiration from Bordeaux, producing top-quality Cabernet Sauvignons and Bordeaux Blends with firm structure, mouthwatering acidity, balanced alcohol and notes of herbs and spice. For white wines, refreshing blends of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon as well as complex, age-worthy Chardonnays are regional specialties.
