Distiller Notes
This intriguing amaro is obtained from a decoction of herbs, roots and barks which are prepared over a wood fire. Only pure honey is used to sweeten this blend. Tobacco color with brick red shades, opaque, expressive. It offers aromas of nearly stewed ripe fruit and sultana, with scents of gentian, rhubarb, sandalwood and honey. Dry, bitter, warm. Its tannic structure is powerful: somewhat drying to the palate, it is countered by intense salivation at the side walls of the mouth. Hard notes due to acids and tannins are dominant.
First prepared by 13th century Italian monks as herbal medicines and elixirs, Liqueurs are distilled spirits that have been combined with flavoring agents. A range of herbs, spices, nuts, fruits and flowers can be used, and a sweetener such as sugar or corn syrup is often added. While typically rather sweet, some examples are herbaceous or tart and pair exceptionally well with desserts or act as a delightful addition to cocktails.
