Winemaker Notes

Our 2013 Anderson Valley Pinot Noir is a full-bodied wine in which the ripe berry character of the Ferrington Vineyard is beautifully complemented by the purity of fruit from our estate owned Monument Tree Vineyard. This wine has a red-rose color and a nose of black cherry, potpourri and brown sugar. It has a fruit-sweet attack, excellent acid balance and flavors of strawberries, brown sugar and laurel on the palate. The wine finishes with a hint of tannin and a lingering taste of licorice.

Kudos to Twomey and the Anderson Valley for giving us such a superb wine, this one is so elegant and refined! Medium garnet color; bright, scintillating and active red fruit aromas with a cranberry accent, excellent focus and depth; medium bodied, zippy on the palate; attractive red fruit flavors, excellent purity and concentration, very bright; lively aftertaste. I do believe I see a plate with grilled lamb coming out of the kitchen. Let's eat! (Tasted; June 10, 2015, San Francisco, CA)

Anderson Valley, located in Mendocino County just above Sonoma County, is one of California’s coolest AVAs, allowing it a long growing season. Only 15 miles long, the region makes a slice eastward through the mountains, from the frigid Pacific Ocean. Dramatic diurnal temperature variations here preserve grape acidity and thus freshness in the finished wines. These are prime conditions for growing Pinot Noir, and the valley produces many fine versions. Characteristics of Anderson Valley Pinot Noir typically include crisp acidity, cranberry and strawberry notes as well as earthy notes of forest floor and mushroom.

Still Pinot Noir, however, is only part of the story. Pinot Noir, along with Chardonnay, are also grown for Anderson Valley’s exceptional sparkling wines. Produced via the traditional method, these offer a classic toasty note from lees aging, bright, complex fruit notes and a clean, refreshing character.
