Winemaker Notes

Deep dark red color. Aromas of currants, blueberry and juniper, bouquet garni and fresh earth. The palate is built on lots of fresh blue and red fruits. Bright flavours with energy and verve, along with hints of dusty earth, weave through the mid-palate with complexing notes of bay leaf, juniper and green tobacco leaf. Acid is fresh but balanced whilst tannins kick in mid palate and run long with the fruit prolife. Notes of coffee grounds and chocolate add complexity through the finish.

Impressive, with a plush, seductive and succulent body, offering sink-your-teeth-into-them flavors of black cherry, blackberry and plum, accented by details of dark chocolate, rose petal and savory. Drink now through 2025.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2015 Sexy Beast Cabernet Sauvignon is redolent of crème de cassis, black forest cake and menthol with a waft of cigar boxes. Full-bodied, concentrated and full-on "sexy," as the name suggests, I like the firm, ripe tannins in the mouth that support the generous fruit very nicely through the long finish.

Two Hands Wines was founded in 1999 by Michael Twelftree and Richard Mintz. Their aim was, and still is, to produce the best possible wines from prized Shiraz growng regions throughout Australia. "Quality without compromise" is a core value that drives all decisions from fruit and oak selection to packaging and promotion. Winemaker Matt Wenk has been with Two Hands since 2002 and, together with Michael Twelftree, oversees every aspect of the winemaking process. Their flagship Shiraz, Ares, represents the very best parcels in each vintage and is sselected through an intense barrel classification process. This blend of Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale Shiraz displays the incredible depth of flavor and balance that are hallmarks of this wine.

McLaren Vale

View all wine

Known for opulent red wines with intense power and concentration, McLaren Vale is home to perhaps the most “classic” style of Australian Shiraz. Vinified on its own or in Rhône blends with Grenache and Mourvèdre, these hot-climate wines are deeply colored and high in extract and alcohol with signature hints of dark chocolate and licorice. Cabernet Sauvignon is also produced in a similar style. Whites, often made from Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc tend to be opulent and full of tropical, stone and citrus fruit.

Cabernet Sauvignon

View all wine

A noble variety bestowed with both power and concentration, Cabernet Sauvignon is now the world's most planted grape variety. Inherently high in tannins and acidity, the best bottlings of Cabernet can age beautifully, with the ability to last fifty years or more. Cabernet Sauvignon flourishes in temperate climates like Bordeaux's Medoc region and forms the base of the Medoc reds, which are typically mostly Cabernet with Merlot and smaller amounts of some combination of Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. (Enjoying a great deal of success in various regions around the world, this blend is now globally referred to as a Bordeaux Blend.) Cabernet Sauvignon has enjoyed great success throughout the world, particularly in the Napa Valley, and is responsible for some of the world’s most prestigious and sought-after “cult” wines.

In the Glass

High in color, tannin and extract, Cabernet Sauvignon expresses notes of blackberry, cassis, plum, currant, spice and tobacco. In Bordeaux and elsewhere in the Old World you'll find the more earthy, tannic side of Cabernet, where it is typically blended to soften tannins and add complexity. In warmer regions like California Washington, Argentina, Chile and Australia, you can typically expect more ripe fruit flavors upfront.

Perfect Pairings

Cabernet Sauvignon is right at home with rich, intense meat dishes—beef, lamb and venison, in particular—where its opulent fruit and decisive tannins make an equal match to the dense protein of the meat. With a mature Cabernet, opt for tender, slow-cooked meat dishes.

Sommelier Secrets

Despite the modern importance and ubiquity of Cabernet Sauvignon, it is actually a relatively young variety. In 1997, DNA profiling revealed the grape to be a spontaneous crossing of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc which took place in 17th century southwestern France.
