Distiller Notes

Wine Enthusiast 100 Best Spirits of 2021

Pale straw yellow color; luminous, with golden and slightly greenish tones. Medium bodied due to its lower alcoholic content. A more restrained Tequila than the Blanco and aged for four months in ex-bourbon casks, two months longer than the law dictates. Tapatio Reposado is best enjoyed in a wine glass to fully bring out the honey and spicy character.

This is a lean take on reposado, with a light straw hue and a perky fresh jalapeño aroma. The minerally palate opens with hints of citrus and sage, leading into white pepper, a faint whisper of vanilla and mouthwatering salinity. It’s lively, with just enough oak to mellow this into a sipping tequila.

Tequila Reposado refers to Tequilas that have been ‘rested’, or aged, in oak barrels for a minimum of two months but not more than one year. Depending on the specific flavors a tequilero wishes to impart on the spirit, a variety of different barrels may be used, from Brandy and Bourbon, to Wine and Sherry. The time spent on the wood allows Reposado Tequilas to mellow as they age, softening and rounding powerful flavor components brought by the agave and marrying them to subtle notes of caramel and vanilla brought by the barrel itself.
