Winemaker Notes
This wine is an elegant expression of Dundee Hills terroir, crafted from select lots drawn from both the higher and lower elevations of their estate vineyard. Aromas of Tahitian vanilla and warm baking spice lift notes of juicy red berries and cassis. The mid-palate is plush and finely textured, with soft, integrated tannins and graceful structure, leading to a seamless finish of Luxardo cherry, pomegranate, and fresh cedar.

A rich black-currant-jelly aroma is counter- pointed by notes of tangy cranberry, dried rose petals, and the most salinity this side of the Salton Sea. Blaz- ing acidity then illuminates the wine’s dark raspberry, rose hip tea and pine-needle flavors. While the finish is a bit short, this is one refreshing sip of Pinot Noir.

Pioneering Oregonian and Founder Bill Stoller purchased his family's second-generation farm in 1993 with the vision of cultivating an enduring legacy for the land and Oregon wine industry. Over the last 30 years, he has patiently transformed the 400-acre property into the largest contiguous vineyard in the Dundee Hills. Thin-skinned, finicky and temperamental, Pinot Noir is also one of the most rewarding grapes to grow and remains a labor of love for some of the greatest vignerons in Burgundy. Fairly adaptable but highly reflective of the environment in which it is grown, Pinot Noir prefers a cool climate and requires low yields to achieve high quality. Outside of France, outstanding examples come from in Oregon, California and throughout specific locations in wine-producing world. Somm Secret—André Tchelistcheff, California’s most influential post-Prohibition winemaker decidedly stayed away from the grape, claiming “God made Cabernet. The Devil made Pinot Noir.”
Home of the first Pinot noir vineyard of the Willamette Valley, planted by David Lett of Eyrie Vineyard in 1966, today the Dundee Hills AVA remains the most densely planted AVA in the valley (and state). To its north sits the Chehalem Valley and to its south, runs the Willamette River. Within the region’s 12,500 acres, about 1,700 are planted to vine on predominantly basalt-based, volcanic, Jory soil.
