Smoking Loon Steelbird Unoaked Chardonnay 2021
Smoking Loon Steelbird Unoaked Chardonnay represents the true characteristics of Chardonnay, free from the influence of oak aging. 100% stainless steel aging allows vibrant aromas of tropical fruit, baked apple, and freshly baked bread to shine through. Refreshing yet rich flavors of lemon curd are rounded out by a pleasant citrus acidity. With a creamy, silky mouthfeel—obtained by re-suspending the lees during tank aging—and persistent finish, this unoaked Chardonnay is in a league of its own.
A bright, medium-length finish makes this a versatile food-pairing wine. Serve with light appetizers, seafood, grilled vegetables, and spicy Mexican or Indian dishes.

Don Sebastiani & Sons is a family-owned wine negociant firm specializing in the marketing of upscale, but moderately priced varietal wines. Principals Don Sebastiani and sons, Donny and August are third and fourth generation California vintners and wine merchants. The company is headquartered in Sonoma Valley and has a winery in the Napa Valley.
California’s most praised white wine, Chardonnay is also the state’s most planted white grape variety. Diverse terrain and microclimates allow for an incredible range of wine styles.
Chardonnay planted in the cooler, coastal zones takes on bright characteristics like lemon zest, key lime, green apple and wet flint. For this style, look to the chilly Sonoma Coast, Carneros, Santa Cruz Mountains, Santa Lucia Highlands and Edna Valley.
The inland zones of California’s coast, such as the Russian River, Sonoma, Napa and Livermore Valleys maintain a more Goldilocks-esque climate where both styles go. Early picking retains acidity and creates a leaner style but leaving the grapes to hang creates an approachable Chardonnay, balancing richness and finesse.
Chardonnay also plays a major part in the sparkling wine production of the Anderson Valley and Carneros.
