Winemaker Notes

This vintage, our Landslide Vineyard produced a wine that is intensely seductive with an alluring balance of dark fruit to bright fruit. Opaque deep red with a vibrant ruby edge, this wine begins the seduction with sweet black cherry, cassis, plum, and blackberry fruit aromas along with dark roasted coffee, brown sugar, vanilla, and smoky mineral notes. Subtle wafts of violets, hints of cedar, and mint complete the aromatics. A brilliant and refined peppery spice adds interest. On the palate, dark berries, cassis, blackberries, and plums are enriched with roasted coffee accents. The entry is big, full, and rich, followed by a lush mid-palate and a toasty finish of caramel and hints of dark chocolate enveloping the fruit. A powerful and giving wine, with good concentration, weight, and length that keeps you going back for more. This Cabernet Sauvignon pairs beautifully with venison chop and blackberry compote, roasted mushroom and caramelized onion linguine with balsamic reduction, or a grilled ribeye with plum moustarda.

While Sonoma County is acclaimed—and rightfully so—for its Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs, and Zinfandels, it also produces exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. Of the region’s 18 American Viticultural Areas, only a handful produce top-notch Cabernet Sauvignon. These appellations include Alexander Valley, Knights Valley, Sonoma Valley and Dry Creek Valley. Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignons made in these appellations can offer a complex array of aromas and flavors. Fruit notes such as blackberry, blackcurrant, cassis, black cherry and raspberry often are accompanied by hints of graphite, dusty earth, cigar box, toast and vanilla. The varietal has a rich history in Sonoma, and some of these Cabernet Sauvignons and Cabernet-based blends rival the best from Napa Valley.
