Simi Landslide Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 Front Label
Simi Landslide Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 Front Label

Winemaker Notes

This vintage of Landslide is deeper, darker, and more sultry in nature than usual, with great concentration of fruit both blue and black in nature. Opaque deep red with a vibrant ruby edge, this wine entices with warm and inviting aromas of sweet black cherry, cassis, plum, blackberry, raspberry, dark roasted coffee, brown sugar, vanilla, and smoky mineral notes. On the palate, dark berries and plums meet up with roasted coffee accents. The entry is big, full, and rich, followed by a focused middle and a youthful finish with a slight grip and dark roasted offering.

This Cabernet Sauvignon pairs beautifully with beef Stroganoff, chickenfried steak with mushroom gravy, grilled Greek rack of lamb, and wild mushroom lasagna.

While Sonoma County is acclaimed—and rightfully so—for its Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs, and Zinfandels, it also produces exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. Of the region’s 18 American Viticultural Areas, only a handful produce top-notch Cabernet Sauvignon. These appellations include Alexander Valley, Knights Valley, Sonoma Valley and Dry Creek Valley. Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignons made in these appellations can offer a complex array of aromas and flavors. Fruit notes such as blackberry, blackcurrant, cassis, black cherry and raspberry often are accompanied by hints of graphite, dusty earth, cigar box, toast and vanilla. The varietal has a rich history in Sonoma, and some of these Cabernet Sauvignons and Cabernet-based blends rival the best from Napa Valley.
