Pine Ridge Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 Front Label

Winemaker Notes

Presenting a bouquet that is both savory and sweet, this deep ruby wine expresses rich aromas of ripe, brambly blackberry, sweet red cherry and blackcurrant, enrobed by wisps of smoky oak, Oolong tea, dried sage leaf and dark chocolate mocha. Leading with vivid cherry and fresh raspberry fruits, the lush palate echoes with nuances of white pepper, maple-brown sugar and sweet basil, underscored by velvety tannins on the graceful finish.

A classic, meaty dish, such as a rack of New Zealand lamb chops and grilled vegetables with hollandaise, makes a fine partner for this elegantly powerful bottling. Alternatively, this complex beauty is equally enjoyable after dinner alongside dark chocolate truffles or an earthy, semi-soft cheese like Ossau, a Basque cheese made from ewe's milk.

Medium-bodied but concentrated, with firm yet refined tannins and refreshing acidity. This has tension and lift, and considerable purity of fruit. Not hugely structured but beautifully textured, balanced and long.

Spice, tobacco and a cedary Cabernet character, which is very attractive. A beautifully structured palate with delicious fruit supported by velvety, ripe tannins. Really complete wine with lots of class.

Savoury and more restrained in style than lighter and fresher. The palate has an attractive liveliness of bold red fruits, with softer tannins and oak usage. Younger drinking, and with a delicious core of vibrant freshness.

From the Stags Leap District (the home base of Pine Ridge), the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is loaded with notes of dark chocolate, spring flowers, black cherries and black currants. This medium to full-bodied, flavorful, pure wine possesses lots of nobility, intensity and richness, but there is not a hard edge to be found in this beauty. For sheer complexity, it is hard to beat. Moreover, it should drink well for 10-15 years.

One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wine. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasn’t until the 1970s that this marriage came to light; sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.

Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soil—as a perfect example, Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
