Winemaker Notes

Dark and mysterious, the 2016 Cabernet Franc emanates aromas of cedar, bramble fruit, and blackberry, then indulges the drinker with seductive flavors of pomegranate, black cherry, and rhubarb cobbler. With beautiful soft tannins and a long, clean finish, we know it will convert you into a long-time fan (if you weren’t one already!). Delicious now, this 2016 Cabernet Franc will continue to mature for the next 5- 7 years.

Blend: 83% Cabernet Franc, 17% Cabernet Sauvignon

Professional Ratings

  • 94

Dense garnet color and a spiced nose; velvety and concentrated, with plum, blackberry, and more spice; elegant and charming, with a lasting finish.

  • 93

A flavorful, poised cabernet franc with redcurrant and hazelnut character. Medium to full body and firm tannins that are polished and integrated. Delicious finish. Drinkable now, but better in a year or two.

Undoubtedly proving its merit over and over, Napa Valley is a now a leading force in the world of prestigious red wine regions. Though Cabernet Sauvignon dominates Napa Valley, other red varieties certainly thrive here. Important but often overlooked include Merlot and other Bordeaux varieties well-regarded on their own as well as for their blending capacities. Very old vine Zinfandel represents an important historical stronghold for the region and Pinot noir is produced in the cooler southern parts, close to the San Pablo Bay.

Perfectly situated running north to south, the valley acts as a corridor, pulling cool, moist air up from the San Pablo Bay in the evenings during the hot days of the growing season, which leads to even and slow grape ripening. Furthermore the valley claims over 100 soil variations including layers of volcanic, gravel, sand and silt—a combination excellent for world-class red wine production.
