Winemaker Notes

Crafted from an Amontillado, dry and nutty, and a Pedro Ximénez, sweet, intense, and velvety, aged following the “Solera y Criaderas” system. Along with a careful selection of 10 botanicals infused separately, Vermut Rojo Lustau achieves a perfect balance, where the high quality of its wines takes the lead. Its exceptional quality is widely recognized; its distinctive, flavorful, and slightly sweet character sets it apart.

An interesting newcomer to the U.S. market, the base of this vermouth is rich, nutty Sherry—80% amontillado and 20% Pedro Ximenez, to be precise. It has a coffee-brown hue and a bright dried-herb scent. The palate wows with sticky toffee, dried apricot, orange peel and cocoa. Ideal for adding complexity to drinks featuring dark spirits.

The origins of The House of Lustau date back to 1896, when Mr. José Ruiz-Berdejo, started cultivating the vines of the family's estate in his spare time. In these humble beginnings he made wines which were then sold to larger sherry producers. This activity was known as being an almacenista.

Lustau has repeatedly been awarded with multiple awards and trophies from around the world. These accolades have been achieved by the products and team, both considered best of the industry. The day-to-day work and the wisdom transmitted from generation to generation of craftsmen, come together in the care of their casks.

More than 125 years of history and expertise combined with their team's passion and dedication shape the character and personality of Lustau wines.
