The color is an intense garnet red, limpid and dense. On the nose it is spicy with fruity notes and fine hints of dried flowers and rose petals. On the palate it has a warm tannic mouthfeel, with well-integrated spicy notes.
Perfect with beef, braised meats, game and mature cheeses.

The 2020 Carema Etichetta Bianca is a delicate, elegant wine with effusive aromatics and fine balance. Sweet macerated red cherry, mint, spice, sweet pipe tobacco and cedar are all beautifully lifted in the glass. Deceptively medium in body, the 2020 is positively stellar. Texturally, it is on the lighter side, which accents both acidity and tannin. This is a lovely effort from Ferrando.

Beyond these two, a surprising number of red varieties call Piedmont their home. Worth a try include Dolcetto for its bold concentration and aromas of spice cake. Other grapes to investigate include Freisa, Croatina, Brachetto, Grignolino and Pelaverga.
