Lindeman’s Bin Series Padthaway Cabernet/Merlot 1996 Front Label

Winemaker Notes

Ruby red color lead to black berry fruit aromas mingled with mint, cedar and vanilla to create an enticing wine from the start. The blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot delivers an easy drinking wine, combining the powerful blackberry fruit of Cabernet with the more subtle, lingering softness of Merlot. Time spent in new and older oak adds a clean nutty finish and fine grain tannins complete the recipe. The 1996 Lindemans Padthaway Cabernet Merlot should ideally be enjoyed over the next two or three years with robust style foods such as roasted meats and hearty pasta dishes.

One of the world’s most classic and popular styles of red wine, Bordeaux-inspired blends have spread from their homeland in France to nearly every corner of the New World. Typically based on either Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot and supported by Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, the best of these are densely hued, fragrant, full of fruit and boast a structure that begs for cellar time. Somm Secret—Blends from Bordeaux are generally earthier compared to those from the New World, which tend to be fruit-dominant.

An inland subregion of the Limestone Coast, Padthaway has made a name for itself as a significant source of quality Shiraz even though the region grows other varieties. Padthaway is home to only a handful of producers; most Padthaway Shiraz goes to wines made outside of its borders.
