Winemaker Notes

Cascading berry fruits are fleshy and broad with an ornate overlay of dark chocolate, granite and espresso forte topped with Adirondack spruce. Powerful, rich and resonant at its core, the wine sustains supple character to the final note.

I loved the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, a big, opulent, full-bodied beauty that boasts a vivid purple hue, gorgeous aromatics of cassis, spring flowers, classy oak, and spice, ultra-fine tannins, and a great finish. This is one of those round, seamless, incredibly sexy wines that could come from nowhere else outside of Napa Valley. Drink this killer bottle of wine over the coming 15 years.

Plush, dark and winey, with a broad wave of steeped black currant, blackberry paste and dark plum reduction infused with hints of wood spice, anise and apple wood. Shows serious grip on the finish, with a smoldering cocoa hint that adds to the bass line. For fans of the big style.

The large-scaled, opulent 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve offers up notes of cedar, dark chocolate and cassis but also a distinct hint of bell pepper on the nose. Full-bodied, lush and supple, there's a lot to like on the palate, where the slightly green note is less distracting. Best After 2023.

One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wine. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasn’t until the 1970s that this marriage came to light; sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.

Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soil—as a perfect example, Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
