Winemaker Notes

The bouquet is rich with dark fruits, cinnamon, clove, and subtle oak aromas. The wine is juicy on the palate with bright red cherries and blackberry flavors prominent, accented by delicate vanilla flavors and toasty oak, finishing long with round, soft tannins.

The complex flavor of this wine complements just about any well-seasoned meat such as beef, pork, or lamb, followed by an indulgent dessert or espresso.

This full-bodied wine is packed with aromas of ripe fruit, cedar, cinnamon and flowers on the nose. The juicy palate brings flavors of blackberry and black cherry wrapped in a velvety layer of fine-grained tannins. Editors’ Choice

Joseph Carr was an award winning Sommelier and international wine industry executive who set out on his own in 2005 and founded Joseph Carr Winery in Carneros, California. It was, as Mr. Carr says, a chance to follow a dream. "We're a family owned company dedicated to making world class, handcrafted wines. We work with small growers, coopers and winemakers producing elegant, sophisticated, yet approachable wines from Napa Valley, Carneros, and the North Coast of California."

Joseph Carr has recently worked with Tom Larson to produce his second label, named "Josh Cellars."

"After we're done producing our portfolio of Joseph Carr wines, we like to sit around "the garage" we call a wine cellar, and tinker with a few things. Growers we call friends come by and lend a hand. We laugh, tell stories and produce a winemaker's wine that we make just for ourselves; handcrafted wines that we jokingly refer to as a "vin de garage." These wines are named after my father, as they are expressive, but unassuming and approachable – just like him."

Covering the most vine acreage in the state compared to any other red wine variety, Cabernet Sauvignon produces as much wine in California as Merlot and Pinot noir combined. The state’s diverse terrain and microclimates, as well as the freedom of its winemakers, allow for an incredible range of wine styles from this single grape.

California’s most famous region—and especially for Cabernet Sauvignon—is the acclaimed Napa Valley. While Cabernet is successful throughout the world, rarely has it achieved such merit as it does from the Napa Valley. At this point the two are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other.

Napa’s closest neighbor, Sonoma County, does an impressive job keeping up with Napa’s fame and glory. Alexander Valley, Sonoma Mountain, Moon Mountain and Knights Valley contribute to the lot of some of California’s top-rated Cabernet Sauvignon.

Lake County in California’s North Coast has become a focus for some of Napa’s more respected growers. From the Central Coast come iconic examples of classic California Cabernet; Lodi and the Sierra Foothills are great budget-friendly sources of amicable Cabernets.
