Winemaker Notes

This Great Southern Shiraz strikes a seamless balance between power and elegance, offering a vibrant bouquet of dark cherries, Satsuma plum, and mulberry, underscored by hints of subtle vanilla. The palate is rich and layered, with plush briary berry flavors complemented by savory notes of Hoisin sauce and allspice. A fine acidity enlivens the mouthfeel, while smooth, pleasantly chewy tannins add texture and depth. The oak influence lends the wine a gentle charry note, alongside a long and satisfying fruit-filled finish.

Intense dark-red hue, and intense flavours, too. Loads of brown spices, some pepper and mace infuse the black plums, squid ink and ferrous. Full bodied and rich, but what’s pleasing, it’s not weighty or heavy – the palate is supple as the tannins are plump and soft, then the acidity keeps everything on track. Good drink in anyone’s book.

The nose is spice-driven, with aromas of Damson plums, dark cherries, white pepper and blackberries. The palate is medium- to full-bodied with finely integrated tannins and focused acidity, giving notes of mocha, granite, violets and spices. Soft and floral with underlying power. Very good. Drink or hold.

Marked by an unmistakable deep purple hue and savory aromatics, Syrah makes an intense, powerful and often age-worthy red. Native to the Northern Rhône, Syrah achieves its maximum potential in the steep village of Hermitage and plays an important component in the Red Rhône Blends of the south, adding color and structure to Grenache and Mourvèdre. Syrah is the most widely planted grape of Australia and is important in California and Washington. Sommelier Secret—Such a synergy these three create together, the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre trio often takes on the shorthand term, “GSM.”
