Winemaker Notes

Soft vanilla aromas with a retonasal character, hints of leather, tobacco and dried flowers. Very elegant, mellow, velvety, tasty and well-balanced. Good length. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Only made in appropriate vintages. The Reserva shows much of the complexity and elegance of a great aged classic Rioja with some of the freshness and power of the great vineyards Pecina owns.
Blend: 95% Tempranillo, 3% Graciano, 2% Garnacha

RP 91
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
All the reds are Tempranillo-based blends with some 3% Garnacha and 2% Graciano, and the 2011 Señorío de P. Peciña Reserva is no exception. It was sourced from a selection of their own vineyards in the Sonsierra zone. It fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts without much extraction or a long maceration. The élevage lasted for 36 months and was in used American oak barrels with racking every six months. It's heady and ripe, the opposite of the 2013, with earthy and meaty aromas, hints of nuts, sweet spices and ripe fruit. The palate feels quite round, with juicy fruit and fine-grained tannins. As traditional as it gets.

Quite a developed traditional style wine. Ripe and generous with a slight sweetness and fairly supple tannins for Rioja.

Bodegas Hermanos Peciña S.L. was founded in 1992 by Pedro Peciña Crespo with his three children in a small winery in the center of San Vicente de la sonsierra, where only "cosechero" wine was elaborated. In 1997 the firm began a new phase, with the inauguration of the new bodega and the elaboration of white wines and aged red wines: Crianzas, Reservas, Gran Reservas.

Hailed as the star red variety in Spain’s most celebrated wine region, Tempranillo from Rioja, or simply labeled, “Rioja,” produces elegant wines with complex notes of red and black fruit, crushed rock, leather, toast and tobacco, whose best examples are fully capable of decades of improvement in the cellar.

Rioja wines are typically a blend of fruit from its three sub-regions: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Oriental, although specific sub-region (zonas), village (municipios) and vineyard (viñedo singular) wines can now be labeled. Rioja Alta and Alavesa, at the highest elevations, are considered to be the source of the brightest, most elegant fruit, while grapes from the warmer and drier, Rioja Oriental, produce wines with deep color, great body and richness.
