Distiller Notes
Ha'penny Irish whiskey is a blend of four different cask types and two styles of whiskey. It offers a rich aromatic nose of oak wood spice with hints of nuttiness. Dried berries with touches of sweet tropical fruits, vanilla and cinnamon. A dry but rounded mouthfeel with peppered wood spice. Dried apricot sweetness develops into a fusion of marzipan, demerara and praline. Smooth balance of vanilla, creme caramel, hints of orange citrus & dark fruits with a lingering oak spice finish.
The result of an historically prohibitive tax placed on malted barley by the English crown, Irish Whiskey is most often produced from a combination of un-malted barley and other grains. Whereas most other Whiskeys are twice distilled, Irish Whiskeys are distilled three times in a column still and must mature in oak barrels for a minimum of three years. These intricate production steps combine to make them lighter, smoother and more approachable than other styles.
