#13 Whisky Advocate Top 20 Whiskies of 2020

Glenmorangie The Cadboll Estate is a spirit crafted from Glenmorangie's own Cadboll Estate barley, grown only in the fields surrounding their Highland home, and distilled in Scotland's tallest stills. It is aged in hand-selected, first-fill American White Oak ex-Bourbon casks to create a single-estate whisky of oaky depths and rounded smoothness. This limited edition brings a unique creaminess and sweet, oaky depths to Glenmorangie's signature, smooth style.

This whisky is a golden brown color. The aromas have an oaky intensity, biscuit and orange oil, softened with honeycomb, jasmine and rose. On the palate, creamy butter candy, white chocolate, pears and mandarin are balanced by menthol. Rounded and deeply sweet.

Glenmorangie has been growing its own barley for years, but this U.S. exclusive marks the first release produced entirely from its estate-grown grain. Honeysuckle and jasmine waft over lemon curd and shortbread on the nose, while bright aromas of blueberry and lime stand out. The palate is malty and full: shortbread with tumbling fresh blueberries, toasted almonds, and gingery spice. It’s silky, rounded, and seamless into the finish, and beautifully transformed by a drop of water.

Glenmorangie Winery Video

After spending 17 years as a whisky distiller, William Matheson left his job and sought to start his own distillery. His vision was to create an exceptional, exquisitely smooth whisky.

In 1843, his vision became a reality when he took over the Morangie farm and founded Glenmorangie.

Originally 16 men, an unbroken chain of experts worked together to craft Glenmorangie through the centuries. These men passed down their knowledge and expertise of the heralded Single Malt from generation to generation. This time-honored tradition preserved the quintessential Single Malt of Scotland.

In the far north of Scotland, near the ancient Royan Burgh of Tain, lies Glenmorangie. 'The Glen of Tranquility' where malt whisky has been distilled since it began. The distillery has an air of timelessness; the methods and craft they employ today differ little from those of their forbears.

“A good gulp of hot Scotch Whisky at bedtime–it’s not very scientific, but it helps!”

Alexander Fleming, Scottish inventor of penicillin, prescribed it as a cure for the common cold. Today Single Malt Scotch Whiskies are prized by enthusiasts and aficionados the world over for their rarity, age and complexity. By definition these must be produced in Scotland from a single distillery and made entirely from malted barley, using a pot still. The appearance, aroma and flavor of a Single Malt Scotch Whisky can vary widely depending on whether it was produced in the Highlands, Lowlands Islands, Speyside, Islay or Campbelltown regions.
