    Winemaker Notes

The grapes for the Monograph Moschofilero come from vineyards located in the Arcadianplateaus in the Mantinia region of Peloponnese, at an altitude of 1,500ft. In this cool climate, the pink-skinned Moschofilero thrives, developing intense, spicy and floral aromatics andcrisp acidity.

This lively, dry white wine has an intensely floral and fruity nose, with hints of rose petaland spice. A refreshing wine, with a crisp acidity and flavorful finish.

Playing off its charactistically floral bouquet, this wine is a great pairing for seafood, MiddleEastern and Asian cuisine, or paired with fresh fruit or fruit-based desserts.

GAIA WINES was founded in 1994 by Leon Karatsalos and Yiannis Paraskevopoulos.

Thalassitis, a Santorini A.O.C. white wine, inaugurated the company's first appearance, and quickly won a place in the Greek wine market. The 9,800 numbered bottles of Thalassitis in 1994, rapidly rose to more than 100,000 in 1999, all the while maintaining its commitment to quality.

In 1996 GAIA WINES acquired a private vineyard in Koutsi region of Nemea, along with a perfectly equipped winery of a total capacity of 3.000hl.

A large southern region of Greece, the Peloponnese contains the famous appellations of Nemea and Mantineia. While connected to the mainland by a tiny strip of land, essentially the region is a large Mediterranean island and excels in the production of red wine from Agiorghitiko, white from Moscofilero and sweet wine from the Mavrodaphne grape.

Beyond the usual suspects, there are hundreds of white grape varieties grown throughout the world. Some are indigenous specialties capable of producing excellent single varietal wines, while others are better suited for use as blending grapes. Each has its own distinct viticultural characteristics, as well as aroma and flavor profiles, offering much to be discovered by the curious wine lover. In particular, Portugal, Spain, Italy and Greece are known for having a multitude of unique varieties but they can really be found in any region.
