The 2006 Pedriel Vineyard Selection is a blend of 60% Malbec, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Merlot aged for 16 months in French oak. It has a very smooth, seductive bouquet of black cherries, cassis and violets that is pure and seamless. The palate is medium-bodied with sensual, rounded tannins. It is embroidered with crisp acidity and a harmonious black cherry, boysenberry and mineral-rich finish that handles the oak in its stride.

Intense stuff, with foresty, forceful aromas of blackberry, black cherry, char, mineral and toast. The palate is quite thick and dense, with baked and spicy blackberry flavors offset by herbal notes. Concentrated and minty, with a bullish finish.

Most distinguished and celebrated from Argentina’s Mendoza, Malbec has seen runaway success since the early 2000s. Mendoza’s agreeable, continental climate with hot, dry summers and cold snowy winters allows the perfect conditions for growing outstanding Malbec. This grape is easy to like for its lusty, deep flavors and aromas of blackberry, plum, red cherry, autumn spice and tilled earth. It’s easy to find delicious, fruit-driven, affordable everyday examples and in prices beyond, quite exceptional ones with dense, supple textures that make them capable of aging.
