Winemaker Notes

A benchmark bottle from an enviably cool growing season, Pact 2023 offers every intriguing element you've come to expect in our signature wine, only more of each. Heady minerality—always the mark of our vineyard's Pact blocks-is amplified on the nose, followed by savory crushed herb aromas over layers of warm, toasted spice, sweet tobacco leaf, and rich blue fruit. That pure, dark fruit melds with earth on a juicy palate framed by fine-grained tannins that add precision and weight to the midpalate, giving way to a persistent finish driven by the incredible throughline of minerality that opened on the nose. With the structure and freshness of a classically cool vintage, this Pact will evolve slowly and beautifully through many years in the cellar.

At Faust, we seek to express the complexity of Cabernet Sauvignon and the diversity of the Napa Valley by sourcing from our estate vineyards in Coombsville and Rutherford as well as from small lots on Atlas Peak, Mount Veeder and Howell Mountain. The culmination of these exceptional appellations results in a prodigious expression of Cabernet Sauvignon.

A noble variety bestowed with both power and concentration, Cabernet Sauvignon enjoys success all over the globe, its best examples showing potential to age beautifully for decades. Cabernet Sauvignon flourishes in Bordeaux's Medoc where it is often blended with Merlot and smaller amounts of some combination of Cabernet Franc, Malbecand Petit Verdot. In the Napa Valley, ‘Cab’ is responsible for some of the world’s most prestigious, age-worthy and sought-after “cult” wines. Somm Secret—DNA profiling in 1997 revealed that Cabernet Sauvignon was born from a spontaneous crossing of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc in 17th century southwest France.
