Winemaker Notes

The most pristine bunches of old-vine Cabernet Sauvignon are hand selected to craft Torres’ most prestigious red wine. A 1979 blind tasting in Paris, the Gault-Millau Wine Olympics, placed some of the world’s most respected wines such as Châteaux Latour against newcomers including Torres. The wine from Mas la Plana vineyard triumphed, placing first, and deserved recognition, putting Penedès on the map as benchmark quality for the best red wines in the world.

Excellent freshness and intensity of meaty blue fruit here with currants, blackberries, dark plums, peppercorns and chocolate, with dark earth and some spearmint. Crushed stone minerality on the palate, with fantastic freshness. Full-bodied, tight, caressing and perfectly ripe tannins. Already delicious, but will age beautifully. Cabernet sauvignon. Mas La Plana has become more refined and precise. Drink or hold.

A cuvée produced since 1970, the 2019 Mas La Plana is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Penedès. Aged 18 months in oak barrels and (61% new) with only 4% remaining in steel tanks, this wine presents a garnet hue with a purple sheen. The aromas feature cassis, tobacco and licorice, along with ripe cherry and orange petit four. Dry, rich and indulgent, it flows with intensity, eventually becoming compact due to its chalky mouthfeel.

An enticing red, exuding fragrant sandalwood and star anise notes, this is plush on the palate, offering generous flavors of black plum reduction, baked bitter cherry, tea leaves and a subtle base note of fresh earth. Defined by sculpted, fine-grained tannins and lively acidity, this is seamlessly knit and harmonious. Drink now through 2034. 6,262 cases made, 450 cases imported.

A noble variety bestowed with both power and concentration, Cabernet Sauvignon enjoys success all over the globe, its best examples showing potential to age beautifully for decades. Cabernet Sauvignon flourishes in Bordeaux's Medoc where it is often blended with Merlot and smaller amounts of some combination of Cabernet Franc, Malbecand Petit Verdot. In the Napa Valley, ‘Cab’ is responsible for some of the world’s most prestigious, age-worthy and sought-after “cult” wines. Somm Secret—DNA profiling in 1997 revealed that Cabernet Sauvignon was born from a spontaneous crossing of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc in 17th century southwest France.

Medio Penedès is the most productive source of the Cava grapes, Macabeo, Xarel-lo, and Parellada.
