Winemaker Notes

2016 was an ideal, warm growing season throughout Oregon – an early bud break, and long warm summer lead Dunk Pond to use all of their vineyard sources this year throughout Willamette Valley to create a stellar blend. The 2016 Pinot Noir jumps out of the glass -- with lively blue and black fruits on the nose, flavors of Bing cherry, black raspberry, spice, and just a touch of oak on the palate. This finish is long with depth and richness – characteristic of the great 2016 vintage. Enjoy this Pinot Noir with heartier fare throughout the course of the week, pairing with grilled meats and Portobello mushrooms –or pan seared polenta.

COMMENTARY: Duck Pond, a reliable producer of "value wines," has come through with a pretty nice Pinot Noir. Yes, when one is looking to stretch the pocketbook, this is brand. TASTING NOTES: The 2016 Duck Pond Pinot Noir is on point. Soft, with a beautiful boysenberry-like aroma, this wine plays softly on the palate and in the finish. Pair it with a turkey sandwich on the veranda. (Tasted: March 1, 2018, San Francisco, CA)

Home of some of the planet’s most amazingly elegant and expressive Pinot noir, the Willamette Valley is a pastoral, mixed landscape of green, bucolic rolling hills, dramatic forestlands and small, independent, friendly wine growers. As a leader in environmental stewardship, the valley has some of the nation’s most protective land use policies, with two-thirds of its vineyards farmed sustainably and over half, organically. While the valley claims a cool, continental climate, and is heavily influenced by the cold, moist winds of the Pacific Ocean, its warm and dry summers allow for the steady, even ripening of Pinot noir.

The potential of Willamette Valley Pinot noir continues to attract the investment of serious growers and winemakers both locally and from abroad, as naturally the finished wines bring accolades from professionals and enthusiasts. With a range of styles from delicate dried cherry, raspberry and hibiscus to stronger notes of truffle, mocha, plum and spice, a fine Willamette Valley Pinot noir is a perfect expression of both character and grace.
