Winemaker Notes
A very old and famous site, splendidly located on a steep southern slope. The vines grow under extreme conditions in weathered volcanic porphyry soil. The stony ground heats quickly during the day, and that warmth produces characteristic Rieslings with a racy fruitiness and mineral acidity, internationally recognized for their distinctive flinty aromas. At the heart of this fantastic vineyard stands our Felsenturmchen (“small rock tower”). The mineral-rich Felsenberg grapes undergo an intense selective harvest and their wines bear the symbol of the Felsenturmchen.

The 2025 Riesling Schlossbockelheimer Felsenberg Grosses Gewachs is from melaphyre and comes with an intriguing nose that unites pepper, grapefruit zest, salty earth and a touch of quince. Stoniness and tingling, salty stone define the palate with clarity, precision and majestic straightness. Beautiful linearity brings such clarity, such poise, such dynamic movement and an airy, soaring quality. A pure and airy expression of Riesling, seemingly from naked stone. (Bone-dry)

This herbal, citric, with a touch of restrained tropical fruit, as well as white pepper. The palate is medium to full bodied, long with a a focused sense of texture, complemented with restrained fruit. Detailed and complex. Drink or hold.
Riesling possesses a remarkable ability to reflect the character of wherever it is grown while still maintaining its identity. A regal variety of incredible purity and precision, this versatile grape can be just as enjoyable dry or sweet, young or old, still or sparkling and can age longer than nearly any other white variety. Somm Secret—Given how difficult it is to discern the level of sweetness in a Riesling from the label, here are some clues to find the dry ones. First, look for the world “trocken.” (“Halbtrocken” or “feinherb” mean off-dry.) Also a higher abv usually indicates a drier Riesling.
