Winemaker Notes

2007 is an amazing vintage. After a dull summer with little sun, September and October were unusually hot and dry. It saved the vintage and cancelled out any harmful effects of the disappointing summer. More than ever, the quality of the terroir, work in the vineyard (leaf removal, yield control) and rigorous sorting were essential to produce very good wines - in certain cases, considered as superior in quality to the 2006 vintage!

Intense and aromatic nose, with powerful aromas of very ripe fruits (raspberry, blackcurrant) blended with notes of liquorice. On the palate, the wine is both full-bodied and powerful, with ripe and silky tannins.

It is a very gratifying wine with youthful aromas and liquorice on the finish.

In most of France, wines are named by their place of origin and not by the type of grape (with the exception of Alsace). Just like a red Burgundy is by law, always made of Pinot noir, a red Bordeaux is a blended wine composed mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Depending on the laws of the village from which the grapes come, the conditions of the vintage and decisions of the winemaker, the blend can be further supported by Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot and in rare cases, Carmenere. So popular and repeated has this mix of grape varieties become worldwide, that the term, Bordeaux Blend, refers to a wine blended in this style, regardless of origin.
