Courvoisier VSOP Cognac
Grande and Petite Champagnes bring harmony while Fins Bois give a floral and fruity character to Courvoisier® VSOP Cognac.
“Very smooth with an excellent balance of oak and floral flavours that can be fully appreciated neat or mixed with ice and water, it's also excellent with long drinks.” - PATRICE PINET, MASTER BLENDER
With the fires of the French Revolution still smouldering, and a country in recovery from the greatest and bloodiest political upheaval in its history, France's first Emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte, took the Imperial throne. In this uncertain climate, Emmanuel Courvoisier, our founder, and Louis Gallois, the mayor of Bercy, decided to open a wine and spirit company on the outskirts of Paris, just north of the river Seine.
Throughout the 1980s, we initiated a range of innovative changes to create an even finer, richer cognac, including micro-distillation, buying and ageing our own French oak and upright barrel storage, which improved the regularity of the wood extract and created more balanced aromas in our cognacs. This once again reinforces our position as the most forward-thinking and revolutionary of the main cognac houses.
Since its creation in 1809 Courvoisier has crafted cognacs to be rich and sophisticated to ignite the senses and give reason to celebrate. Inspired by innovation, ingenuity, and elegance, it is our joie de vivre that has put Courvoisier® at the heart of celebrations
Widely regarded as the finest and most complex grape-based spirit in the world, Cognac follows rigorously strict production guidelines. It is made exclusively of wine—most commonly from Ugni Blanc—from the Charente and Charente-Maritime regions surrounding the town of Cognac in southwestern France. After a second distillation in antique copper pot stills (called charentais), the spirit is transferred to French oak barrels and aged a minimum of two years (VS). Cognac is classified by both age and region (Cru). The Grande Champagne Cru and Petite Champagne Cru, both having shallow limestone soils, are the most respected.
