Distiller Notes
Japanese Mizunara Oak and aged Grand Champagne come together to deliver a complex and rare Cognac.
From the first hint, enticing aromas of sandalwood and sweet spices from the Mizunara casks appear. Progressing to tropical fruits, orange peel, exotic flowers and jasmine. Then deepening into rich notes of roasted cocoa beans, dried fruits, leather and blond tobacco. With a rich, golden mahogany color, the blend delivers a deep, mellow taste. Fruit cake, vanilla, roasted cocoa and mild spicy aromas combine to deliver great intensity. And then there is the exquisitely smooth and long-lasting finish with well-melted tannins and a lingering mellow sweetness. Truly a unique expression of the craft of Cognac.
Widely regarded as the finest and most complex grape-based spirit in the world, Cognac follows rigorously strict production guidelines. It is made exclusively of wine—most commonly from Ugni Blanc—from the Charente and Charente-Maritime regions surrounding the town of Cognac in southwestern France. After a second distillation in antique copper pot stills (called charentais), the spirit is transferred to French oak barrels and aged a minimum of two years (VS). Cognac is classified by both age and region (Cru). The Grande Champagne Cru and Petite Champagne Cru, both having shallow limestone soils, are the most respected.
