Distiller Notes
The Bottled-in-Bond release of the Bonticou Crag fulfills Coppersea's mission of creating spirits of historic significance. Thee Bottled in Bond Act of 1897 was one of the firstconsumer protection laws in the United States, and mandates (among other things) that the whisky be made, aged, and bottled by the distillery on the label.
This full, exceptionally smooth rye bears aromas and notes of ginger, vanilla, honey, black pepper, charred oak and walnuts.
Meant to be enjoyed neat at bottle strength.
Known for its peppery, spicy bite, Rye serves as the ideal base for cocktails like the Sazerac, Manhattan or Old Fashioned. In order for a spirit to be labeled an American Rye Whiskey, the mash bill must be comprised of at least 51% rye grain. The remainder of the mash is most often a combination of malted barley, wheat or corn. After distillation is complete, the spirit is transferred to unused, charred white oak barrels for a minimum of two years, though many producers choose to age longer.
