Conde de San Cristobal 2006 Front Label

Winemaker Notes

Elegant and powerful all through, with a deep clean red cherry color. Complex and deep aromas, with intense fresh and ripe fruit, mingling with mineral and spicy tones. The fruit remains in the mouth, on the palate it is full, fresh, powerful and hearty. For drinking now or can be laid down and enjoyed in a few years time.

The 2006 Conde San Cristobal is 80% Tinta Fino (Tempranillo) with the balance Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Purple in color, it reveals an alluring perfume of pain grille, pencil lead, incense, spice box, black cherry, and blackberry. Dense, layered, and full-flavored, this solid offering has enough structure to evolve for 3-4 years. Drink it from 2013 to 2021. It is an excellent value.

Spanish red wine is known for being bold, heady, rustic and age-worthy, Spain is truly a one-of-a-kind wine-producing nation. A great majority of the country is hot, arid and drought-ridden, and since irrigation has only been recently introduced and (controversially) accepted, viticulture has sustained—and flourished—only through a great understanding of Spain’s particular conditions. Large spacing between vines allows each enough resources to survive and as a result, the country has the most acreage under vine compared to any other country, but is usually third in production.

Of the Spanish red wines, the most planted and respected grape variety is Tempranillo, the star of Spain’s Rioja and Ribera del Duero regions. Priorat specializes in bold red blends, Jumilla has gained global recognition for its single varietal Monastrell and Utiel-Requena has garnered recent attention for its reds made of Bobal.
