Decanter
A complex, dense aromatic framework displays elements of grilled hazelnuts, liquorice, violets and a hint of iris. The palate is a tad monolithic, with an impressive tannic structure and a dense finish, with that characteristic minty freshness. A superb, youthful wine that will stay the distance.

The 2015 Saumur Champigny Le Bourg is coolish and fresh on the toasty nose. Generous, intense and salty on the palate, with fine tannins and lots of cherry aromas, this is a ripe, round and juicy Champigny with firm tannins that were still a bit dry when I tasted this wine (summer 2018) and needed some time to fully integrate. The wine should be on another level today. Rating : 93+
Cabernet Franc, a proud parent of Cabernet Sauvignon, is the subtler and more delicate of the Cabernets. Today Cabernet Franc produces outstanding single varietal wines across the wine-producing world. Somm Secret—One of California's best-kept secrets is the Happy Canyon appellation of Santa Barbara. Here Cabernet Franc shines as a single varietal wine or in blends, expressing sumptuous fruit, savory aromas and polished tannins.
Marked by great châteaux built with the same tuffeau limestone that is also responsible for the excavation of so many of the famed Loire caves, Saumur is famous for its Chenin blanc based sparkling wines. Inside the Saumur region, Saumur-Champigny creates some of the Loire’s greatest Cabernet Francs.
