Winemaker Notes

Cuvée Prestige embodies the richness of Cahors Malbec. Black as at night, a powerful and rich nose, marked by a host of aromas, some more bewitching than the others: a coulis of ripe black fruit, sweet pastry spices and fresh butter, pepper and bay leaf, a hint of smoke… In the mouth it is round and soft, lively and generous, with silky tannins of beautiful structure, followed by a long finish and delicately scented by spices. Savor it now on fine and tasty dishes, such as a roasted chicken with tarragon, a rib steak in vineyard sauce, a black pudding with apples.

With vines on the third terrace above the river Lot, this estate occupies one of the top sites in Cahors. This wine provides a good example of the finesse from the property, never overpowering although still with structure and intense black fruits. Drink from 2021.

Celebrated for its bold flavors and supple texture, Malbec has enjoyed runaway success in Argentina since the late 20th century. The grape originated in Bordeaux, France, where it historically contributed color and tannin to blends. A French agronomist, who saw great potential for the variety in Mendoza’s hot, high-altitude landscape, brought Malbec to Argentina in 1868. Somm Secret—If you’re trying to please a crowd, Malbec is generally a safe bet with its combination of dense fruit and soft tannins.

Within the Southwest of France, this is the one region outside of Argentina that is today almost exclusively dependent on Malbec. Locally the variety is called Cot, and makes a dense, earthy and black fruit dominant red wine. Both the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean both have a strong influence on the climate of this region.
